Biologic Therapy for Non-Surgical Recovery & Performance

Biologic Therapy Orthobiologic Treatments for Peak Performance

At Summit Orthopedics of Texas, biologic therapy is a cornerstone of our Peak Performance Program-designed to help patients heal naturally, reduce pain, and return to activity faster without surgery when possible.

We offer advanced, physician-selected Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) options and Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC), tailored to your diagnosis, tissue quality, and performance goals.

What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

PRP is a non-surgical treatment that uses your body’s own healing potential. A small sample of your blood is processed to isolate platelets-cells rich in growth factors and signaling proteins that support tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and promote regeneration.

PRP is commonly used for tendon, ligament, cartilage, and joint conditions, particularly when conservative treatments have failed or surgery is not yet indicated.

Not All PRP Is the Same Understanding PRP Quality, Concentration & Volume

The effectiveness of PRP depends on how it’s prepared-not all PRP injections are equal. Key variables include:

  • Platelet concentration (how many healing cells are delivered)
  • Leukocyte content (white blood cells that may increase inflammation)
  • Plasma volume
  • Cell ratios
  • Consistency and sterility of processing

At Summit Orthopedics, we use Arthrex-based PRP systems, allowing us to match the biologic treatment to the condition being treated.

Our PRP Options Arthrex ACP

Our PRP Options Arthrex ACP

Best for mild to moderate tendon or joint pain

  • Double-spin system
  • High-quality platelet concentration
  • Lower inflammatory cell content
  • Ideal for early arthritis, tendinitis, and overuse injuries

Typical Uses:

Tennis elbow, patellar tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, mild knee arthritis

Arthrex ACP Max

Arthrex ACP Max

Higher concentration for moderate degeneration or inflammation

  • Enhanced platelet concentration
  • Improved leukocyte reduction
  • Greater biologic potency than standard ACP

Typical Uses:

Moderate osteoarthritis, chronic tendinopathy, partial tendon tears

Arthrex Angel PRP

Arthrex Angel PRP

Our most advanced PRP option

  • Adjustable platelet and leukocyte ratios
  • Higher biologic concentration
  • Designed for complex or advanced conditions

Typical Uses:

Cartilage loss, advanced tendon tears, persistent inflammatory joint conditions

Benefits of PRP Therapy

  • Promotes natural tissue healing
  • Reduces pain and inflammation
  • Minimally invasive with little to no downtime
  • Safe and autologous (derived from your own blood)
  • May delay or prevent surgery
  • Can be repeated or used as maintenance therapy

Some patients respond well to a single injection, while others benefit from repeat treatments every 4–6 months, particularly in arthritis or chronic degenerative conditions.

Conditions That May Benefit from PRP

  • Rotator cuff tendinitis or partial tears
  • Tennis or golfer’s elbow
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Knee osteoarthritis
  • Patellar tendinitis
  • Hip bursitis or labral pathology
  • Meniscus injuries
  • Gluteal or hamstring tendinopathy

Final candidacy is determined after a physician evaluation and imaging review.

Looking for a More Potent Option? Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC)

For patients with advanced cartilage damage, chronic tendon pathology, or avascular necrosis, PRP alone may not be sufficient.

BMAC is a more comprehensive orthobiologic that concentrates:

  • Mesenchymal stem cells
  • Platelets
  • Growth factors

Harvested from the iliac crest (pelvic bone) and performed under anesthesia, BMAC supports regeneration at the cellular level, making it ideal for more complex pathology.

What to Expect After Your Injection

  • Mild soreness or swelling for 24–72 hours
  • Most patients resume daily activities within 1–2 days
  • Avoid NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) for at least one week
  • Full biologic effect typically develops over 2–6 weeks
  • Physical therapy and activity modification may be recommended for optimal results
